South Korea tenders to buy 100,800 T of rice from US, China

The Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. of South Korea has announced an international tender to acquire approximately 100,800 metric tons of rice, primarily from the United States and China, according to European traders. The deadline for submitting price offers is set for March 21. The tender specifies that about 77,700 tons are to be sourced from the United States, 22,000 tons from China, and a smaller volume from Vietnam. The corporation seeks medium brown grade rice from the US and short brown rice from China, with shipments expected to arrive in South Korea between May 2024 and January 2025. This tender follows a previous one in February for 88,800 tons, indicating that no purchases were made then, possibly due to higher-than-expected prices. The corporation typically takes several weeks to finalize its purchasing decisions, often requesting rice samples for testing.
