The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has formally requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) for a Rs5 per unit surge in electricity prices for February’s monthly fuel adjustment. Nepra is scheduled to conduct a hearing on March 28 to consider this request. If approved, consumers will face a significant financial burden, estimated at over Rs40 billion. CPPA’s data highlights the diverse sources contributing to electricity generation in February, including hydropower, local and imported coal, gas, LNG, and nuclear fuel. Additionally, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has proposed a substantial increase in gas prices to Ogra, aiming to address a projected revenue shortfall. If approved, this hike could impose a considerable burden on gas consumers nationwide.
