Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz spearheads a comprehensive strategy against narcotics, greenlighting the establishment of three specialized police stations dedicated to anti-narcotics efforts. Chaired by the chief minister herself, a pivotal meeting of the Department of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control unfolded, culminating in the decision to institute a novel department solely devoted to drug prevention. Complementing this initiative, a network of 13 excise checkposts is underway to staunch the flow of drug smuggling. The gathering also delved into the inception of e-registration for vehicles, yielding a notable 12.5% surge in tax collection. Emphasizing rehabilitation, deliberations centered on repurposing an opium factory, envisioning a windfall of Rs900 million for the pharmaceutical sector.
Additionally, plans were set in motion to integrate the excise department’s services via the Dastak program and collaborate with the Safe City Authority for seamless challan recovery. Steadfast in her resolve, the chief minister directed efforts to eradicate the backlog in vehicle registration and solicited a comprehensive report on tax differentials based on rental values and DC rates. Not stopping there, Maryam Nawaz outlined plans for a dedicated tax consultancy unit, vowing to ensure tax compliance and broaden the tax base, effectively bolstering the region’s fiscal stability.
