In a groundbreaking move, the Information Technology University of Lahore has inaugurated Pakistan’s first virtual reality classes. As the pioneering university in this endeavor, ITU is revolutionizing online education by offering students an immersive learning experience akin to traditional classrooms. With the ability to attend classes from anywhere in the world, students and teachers alike simply don a virtual reality headset to join the session, complete with interactive features like questions, answers, and even the sensation of movement. Ibrahim Ghaznavi, Head of the Department of Computer Sciences, highlights the energy-saving benefits and enhanced academic performance resulting from this initiative. This development comes as a response to the challenges posed by the transition to online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic, aiming to bridge the gap between virtual and physical classrooms. Through a pilot project collaboration with the University of Denmark, ITU is spearheading advancements in educational technology, signaling Pakistan’s potential as a global leader in this domain, contingent upon legislative support for modern technology integration in education.
