Misbah-ul-Haq, the former captain and coach of the Pakistan cricket team, has voiced concerns regarding the fitness and discipline of wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan. This critique follows Azam’s recent expressions of frustration over his inconsistent selections and perceived lack of trust from the team management. Despite Azam’s reputation for powerful batting displays in domestic cricket and various T20 leagues, his opportunities on the international stage have been limited, featuring in only eight T20Is since his debut in 2021. However, his performances have been underwhelming, averaging a mere 4.83 with a strike rate just above 90 in those matches. In a candid discussion on a local sports show, Misbah emphasized the importance of Azam enhancing both his fitness levels and discipline to optimize his performance on the cricket field. While Misbah acknowledged that Azam doesn’t necessarily need to be slim, he stressed the significance of maintaining overall fitness to excel in the sport, alongside a requisite improvement in discipline.
