Mian Aslam Iqbal, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominee for Chief Minister of Punjab, secured bail from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday. Gohar Ali Khan, with the approval of PTI founder Imran Khan, announced Mian Aslam’s candidacy for the Chief Minister position in Punjab. Earlier that day, Mian Aslam Iqbal, a prominent PTI leader, petitioned the Peshawar High Court (PHC) for transit bail. The plea, submitted by Mian Aslam Iqbal, cited his involvement in 19 separate cases and requested the court to grant him transit bail. In the May 9 case, Mian Aslam Iqbal, along with other PTI leaders, was labeled an absconder. Following the nationwide unrest on May 9, 2023, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore declared 11 PTI candidates, including Mian Aslam Iqbal, as absconders. The unrest ensued after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The protests, ignited by Imran Khan’s arrest, witnessed widespread agitation among PTI workers across Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, prompting authorities to deploy armed forces to maintain order. Amidst the chaos, PTI workers targeted military installations, including the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore, leading to significant unrest.
