The Lahore High Court recently addressed a petition filed by citizen Azam Butt concerning the ban on Aurat March, which included Deputy Commissioner Lahore and others as parties. The petitioner expressed apprehension that the march could disrupt peace and order, citing concerns about the content of placards and banners deemed unsuitable for Islamic society. Despite acknowledging women’s rights guaranteed by the Constitution, the petitioner urged the state to halt what was perceived as the unethical promotion of Aurat March. After initial deliberations, the court deemed the petition inadmissible and deferred its decision. Justice Shahid Karim later issued the final verdict. Aurat March, an annual sociopolitical rally held in major Pakistani cities, commemorates International Women’s Day.
