Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has elected Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman as its new emir, succeeding Siraj-ul-Haq. Rehman secured majority support in the party’s 19th emir election, with his tenure slated from 2024 to 2029. Participation was high, with 82% of party workers engaging in the emir election process. Siraj-ul-Haq resigned in February after JI’s electoral setbacks, paving the way for Rehman’s ascension. Notably, Siraj-ul-Haq had led JI for a decade, succeeding Syed Munawar Hassan in 2014. Rehman’s election marks a significant transition in JI leadership, with the party now looking toward a new era under his guidance.
