Amidst global oil price fluctuations, the new government has implemented a significant hike in petrol prices by Rs9.66 per litre, effective immediately, drawing concern as Eidul Fitr approaches. Conversely, high-speed diesel (HSD) sees a decrease of Rs3.32 per litre, aligning with Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s recommendation. Petrol now stands at Rs289.41 per litre, while HSD is priced at Rs282.24 per litre. Justifying the adjustment, the finance ministry cites recent international market trends, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reflecting global price shifts domestically. This move follows a similar downward revision for HSD in March, maintaining equilibrium amidst economic flux.
