Former Spanish footballer Jose Ignacio Peleterio, widely known as Jota, has made a significant life announcement via video he has embraced Islam. The 32-year-old, who made his mark playing for clubs like Eibar, Brentford, and Birmingham City, shared that his journey to Islam began through his close friend, former Kuwaiti footballer Faisal Buresli, whom he’s known for over a decade. Expressing profound happiness and gratitude, Jota described his conversion as the pinnacle of his life, citing it as the “best moment” he’s experienced. He extended heartfelt appreciation to Buresli for guiding him on this spiritual path. Reciting the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, Jota reiterated his newfound belief in Allah and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. He fondly recalled a warm welcome to Islam with a cake bearing the words “Welcome to Islam” served by Buresli’s mother during a dinner gathering. Hailing from A Pobra do Caraminal in Spain, Jota’s football journey took him through various clubs in Spain and England before retiring from the sport in 2021.
