As food safety teams conducted inspections in Lahore’s Sundar Industrial Estate ahead of Ramadan, a shipment of hazardous health items destined for sale during the holy month was intercepted. The seized items included adulterated juices, chocolates, poor-quality mayonnaise, expired eggs, and carbonated drinks, all deemed unfit for consumption and subsequently discarded. The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) reported the confiscation of various items such as 8,976 liters of juice, 48 liters of chocolate, 25 liters of carbonated drinks, and substantial quantities of low-quality mayonnaise, egg yolk, oil, and ghee. Highlighting the severity of the situation, the PFA Director General emphasized the prevalence of defective and expired goods intended for sale. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding unsanitary production conditions, with findings of dirty walls and inadequate cleaning measures in the production unit. As inspections intensify in light of Ramadan, authorities remain vigilant in safeguarding public health and ensuring the integrity of consumable goods.
