US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to visit Israel on Friday to promote a ceasefire in Gaza ahead of a critical UN Security Council vote on a US draft resolution advocating for a “immediate” ceasefire.
The United States, Israel’s main ally, stated on Friday that it will put a draft resolution on the necessity of a “immediate ceasefire as part of a hostage deal” up for voting in the Security Council, following years of using its veto power to prevent earlier resolutions with identical wording.
After negotiations in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Blinken will travel to the region for the sixth time on Friday since the war began on October 7.
