Mohammad Amir, the celebrated fast bowler, has terminated his association with a surrogate betting company following a stern warning from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and public outcry on social media. Amidst preparations for his return to the national squad, Amir faced criticism for his involvement with the betting firm.
Despite the 32-year-old’s cancellation of his one-year contract with the betting site, questions were raised about his endorsement agreement, where he was to receive Rs1.25 crore for promoting the company on social media. The PCB intervened, issuing a statement to the betting company to cease using Amir’s image in their advertising campaign following his national squad selection.
Moreover, the board emphasized its prohibition on such agreements with betting companies and advised Amir against participating in any such advertisements. Recent reports indicate that the betting company has complied with the PCB’s directive by removing Amir’s clips from social media platforms.
