The Islamabad High Court will reconvene to review the appeals lodged by PTI’s founder, Bushra Bibi, and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi regarding their convictions in cipher and Toshakhana cases. Led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, a special bench will preside over the proceedings. The court previously dismissed objections raised by the prosecution concerning the admissibility of the petitions. Barrister Salman Safdar, representing PTI’s founder, refuted the objections presented by FIA prosecutor Hamid Ali Shah. Shah highlighted that under the original 1923 law, there was no provision for appeals. However, Safdar argued that the Criminal Procedure Code should apply in this scenario, allowing for an appeal under the Official Secrets Act. The intricacies of legal interpretation continue to shape the ongoing courtroom debate.
