With just one day remaining until the presidential elections, PkMAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) backed presidential candidate, has petitioned the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to delay the polls. Achakzai contends that the electoral college remains incomplete as certain reserved seats in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies remain unfilled. Highlighting the absence of elected representatives on these seats, Achakzai argues that conducting the presidential election without their participation would violate fundamental rights and the constitution. He references a stay order from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) regarding the reserved seats, asserting that proceeding with the election in such circumstances would be unlawful. With the presidential election scheduled for tomorrow and the PHC’s stay order in place until March 13, Achakzai seeks a postponement to ensure fairness and equity in the electoral process.
