President Dr. Arif Alvi has announced a compassionate measure, granting special clemency to women and child prisoners based on humanitarian considerations. The exemption applies to individuals sentenced to two years or less, as well as those with less than two years remaining in their sentence. Notably, the remission does not extend to individuals convicted of serious offenses such as murder, espionage, or anti-state activities. Additionally, certain categories, including those convicted of adultery, theft, dacoity, kidnapping, terrorism, narcotics offenses, and foreign nationals, are excluded from this remission. The decision aligns with Article 45 of the Constitution, underscoring the commitment to uphold justice while considering mitigating circumstances for vulnerable groups within the prison population.
