Quetta Gladiators have made the decision to relieve Sarfaraz Ahmed of his duties as captain ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, as confirmed by owner Nadeem Omer. Sarfaraz has expressed his desire to take a break from the captaincy role, and the new head coach, Shane Watson, will be consulting with the team management to determine the new leader. Among the candidates to replace Sarfaraz are South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and Pakistan’s middle-order batsman, Saud Shakeel. An official announcement regarding the captaincy will be forthcoming in the following days. Under Sarfaraz’s leadership, the Quetta Gladiators reached three finals and secured the championship title in 2019. Nadeem expressed his satisfaction with Watson’s return to the Gladiators as a coach and expressed hopes to bring Kevin Pietersen onboard as well. “The Quetta Gladiators family is reuniting, and Pietersen should also consider joining in some capacity,” he remarked.
