The official closure of the election campaign is scheduled for midnight tonight (Tuesday), marking the final opportunity for political parties and candidates to sway potential voters. In adherence to election regulations, all campaign activities must conclude by 12 a.m. on Tuesday. Candidates are planning last-minute rallies and gatherings tonight in a final attempt to garner support.
Throughout the campaign period, there has been a mix of tension, rivalry, and passionate discourse, albeit with fewer public rallies. Candidates and parties have utilized various tactics, from impassioned speeches to persuasive manifestos, to appeal to the electorate.
A diverse array of candidates, totaling 5,121 individuals, are competing for the 266 general seats in the National Assembly. Additionally, 12,695 candidates, representing various ideologies, are vying for the 593 general seats across the four provincial assemblies. Voting for both national and provincial seats is scheduled for February 8 (Thursday).
Pakistan boasts a significant electorate of 128,585,760 registered voters for the 2024 elections, with Punjab leading in voter numbers, followed by Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Balochistan, and Islamabad.
Key political players include the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), alongside various regional and religious parties.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is participating in the elections, albeit without its party symbol, Bat, following objections from the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding its intra-party elections. PTI-affiliated candidates are running as independents.
Post-campaigning, election materials will be securely transported to polling stations under strict security measures, as stipulated by the Election Commission.
