Today, as the 16th of Ramadan dawns, we solemnly commemorate the 8th anniversary of the passing of Sufi Qawwal Amjad Sabri. It was on June 22, 2016, that he was tragically assassinated on the streets of Karachi. Even after seven years have passed, the memory of Amjad Sabri’s soulful voice and the circumstances surrounding his targeted killing continue to evoke deep sadness within us all. His profound impact on Sufi music and the poignant manner in which his life was cut short serve as enduring reminders of the fragility of life and the enduring legacy of a true artist.
