Following a harrowing night-long effort, the rescue mission at the Harnai coal mine has come to an end. Tragically, 12 miners were discovered deceased, while eight others were successfully rescued alive. The collaborative endeavor involved various teams, including the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), district administration, Frontier Corps (FC), and mines department. The ordeal began when a coal mine collapsed due to an explosion, leaving 18 miners trapped underground. Initial rescue attempts led to the safe extraction of eight miners, but the remaining 12 were not as fortunate. According to Balochistan Mines Chief Inspector Abdul Ghani, the explosion was caused by gas accumulation within the mine. Despite the valiant efforts of miners who descended to aid their colleagues, the situation quickly escalated, resulting in further entrapment. While the rescued miners offer a glimmer of hope, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the perilous conditions faced by those in the mining industry. As investigations commence, the affected coal mine remains sealed by authorities.
